Part 3: New Year, New You: Choosing Your Word of the Year!
Feb 08 2016Now that we’ve tackled you “Time Management” and your “Lessons Learned in 2015“, we can move forward to the greatness of 2016 and beyond!

Part 1: New Year, New You – Time Management
Jan 19 2016Like many modern women, I’m extremely busy. When I’m taking a break, I’m often thinking about what’s left on my to-do list. One of the biggest gaps I’ve identified in my daily schedule is time-management. The greater my responsibilities, the worse my time management skills become.

Recipe Share: New Orleans Yaka Mein
Oct 11 2015Repost, because it’s Fall, it’s Sunday, it’s GOOD!!!
. . .
My family loves this soup. Yaka mein is a New Orleans tradition and I grew up eating it. The beauty of this soup is how simple it is to prepare. It’s such a simple recipe for a huge payoff. You can literally stop at the grocery on your way home and have dinner on the table in one-hour. The best!
You prepare your stock with meat and put all of the fixings on the side – don’t add the fixings to your pot (fixings: boiled eggs, green onions, noodles, hot sauce, and soy sauce). I used chicken and shrimp in my soup, so you can be creative with the protein. Post the pictures when you make this soup (#ChristoffDavis). Yumsters!
Transform Your Home With Great Art – Part 2
Oct 16 2014Are you considering sprucing up your home for the holidays? Why not start with new art? Follow these easy steps for success:
- Consider your current decor. What is your current style? (i.e. modern, classic, etc.)
- What size do you need to maximize the impact of your art? You may like one large statement piece or a grouping of several smaller pieces.
- Focus on the entire color palate in the room, not one or two colors that may stand out in the room. This may be an opportunity to break-up a repetitive color scheme you may in the room. You want to pick a piece that compliments the room not match the colors in the room.
- Don’t be afraid to take a risk or make an unexpected choice.
- Have fun!

These “Sunsets” paintings make this room shine. I love how they add a pops to the decor. It breaks up the monotony of the wood surfaces. I sort of wish this was in my art studio. Amazing!
I would like to give a special thanks to West Elm for staging my “Sunsets” painting in their Mockingbird Station store, Dallas. The art is so beautiful in these vignettes.

Transform Your Home With Great Art – Part 1
Oct 07 2014What makes a home or space special and well appointed? 400 thread count sheets? Professional chef worthy cookware? All of these things add to the feeling of a well stocked home, but what makes your home shine? Walking into a home with great art, transforms how you experience the space. Carefully curated art is that final touch that can make or break a room. When choosing that special piece, you must consider your decor and the scale of the piece needed to maximize the impact. Color should be another consideration. You should not focus so much on matching the color of your decor, but think more about your entire color palate and enhancing the colors in your decor. For example, blue/gray tones would balance warm woods tones in your cabinetry where as yellows/oranges would further saturate the warmth of the wood. Don’t be afraid to make an unexpected and dramatic expression through your art, go with what inspires you and have fun.

The “Sunsets” paintings above work well with this rooms decor. These paintings accentuate the colors in the pillows while craftily playing off the grey tones in the room. Art can give your home a new life and serve as wonderful conversation pieces. If your wall art is just collecting dust and spotlighting your decor, maybe it’s time for a change?

Grateful Friday: Blessings in Disguise!
Jul 25 2014We first learned that my daughter had severe food allergies in September 2013. We were totally overwhelmed when we met with the nutritionist and learned of all of the foods we had to eliminate from her diet. This would mean a complete changed in our daily lives, no eating out, packing lunch for school, and basically traveling around with meals on the ready for her. It was a tough transition. Since then we have added back dairy, eggs, and fish to her diet with great success. We still have not learned what the culprit is, but wheat/gluten remains a big no-no. Wheat/Gluten is in everything such as, condiments, snack foods, pasta, baked goods, etc.
As you can imagine, for a kid this could be devastating. As difficult as this time has been, we have gained an unexpected huge blessing. My daughter has discovered a love of cooking. She has become quite the gluten-free chef. She has prepared turkey meatballs, chicken and broccoli stir-fry, oatmeal pancakes, oatmeal muffins, and she can scramble a mean egg. Let me tell you I am thoroughly impressed with her persistence and her resilience in the face of adversity. She has mastered reading labels and knows what foods she can and cannot have. Now she is collecting cooking magazines and learning how to swap the ingredients for foods that meet her dietary needs. I am ultimately blessed that we learned about her condition at this age. She is 11 years old and learning life-lessons and skills that she can carry with her the rest of her life.
So the next time you are faced with adversity, don’t become overwhelmed and wrecked with fear. If you pause and wait patiently, you may just discover that what you fear is really a Blessing In Disguise.
