Part 1: New Year, New You – Time Management
Jan 19 2016Like many modern women, I’m extremely busy. When I’m taking a break, I’m often thinking about what’s left on my to-do list. One of the biggest gaps I’ve identified in my daily schedule is time-management. The greater my responsibilities, the worse my time management skills become.

Recipe Share: New Orleans Yaka Mein
Oct 11 2015Repost, because it’s Fall, it’s Sunday, it’s GOOD!!!
. . .
My family loves this soup. Yaka mein is a New Orleans tradition and I grew up eating it. The beauty of this soup is how simple it is to prepare. It’s such a simple recipe for a huge payoff. You can literally stop at the grocery on your way home and have dinner on the table in one-hour. The best!
You prepare your stock with meat and put all of the fixings on the side – don’t add the fixings to your pot (fixings: boiled eggs, green onions, noodles, hot sauce, and soy sauce). I used chicken and shrimp in my soup, so you can be creative with the protein. Post the pictures when you make this soup (#ChristoffDavis). Yumsters!

I love the poem “Litany of Our Lady” by Brenda Marie Osbey. Here is an except:
our lady
our lady of tired buildings listing to one side
and brick-between-cypress posts that simply will stand
as houses themselves give way around falling-down stairs
leaving only a something
a memory of a structure
of spanish-tiled roofs and batten shutters
in a swamp
of a city
of ironworks and of plaster
o, lady lady
our lady of anything
at all

Studio Talk – My Process
Jan 07 2015
The weapons I currently use to attack a blank white canvas for my new painting series are 1. Old school paper mate mechanical pencil (bye bye pencil sharpener) 2. 10/0 detail paint brush 3. Raw sienna acrylic ink. I’ve gotten to a point where I’m more precise with a paint brush then with a pen. Who knew that could happen?
It’s a new year full of possibilities. I’m looking forward to new opportunities, partnerships, collaborations, and creativity. I’ve been planning my next painting series and it promises to be my greatest collection of paintings thus far. Along with documenting my preliminary sketches and noting my thoughts throughout the creation of this new series, I am challenging myself to record my creative process. Look out for some videos taking you into my art studio showing you how I do what I do.
